CoLAB

Research Creation is a hybrid between practice and theory; it brings together scholars and scientists who are sensitive to the role of the arts in their own areas of study. The University of Alberta has a research creation lab with a thematic focus on social justice. The client was in need of a visual identity and applications for the Research Creation and Social Justice Labratory, CoLABratory. This identity focuses on the hybrid between creative and academic fields. Within the wordmark, there is an intersecting of lines, or perspectives, that make up a dynamic space within the ‘o’. The typeface is clean and simple to complement the movement in the experimental lines. The system plays with the idea of a vast, open space for thinking; white space surrounds this dynamic circular shape which represents the research creation labratory and its work.
